Is Tiktok Banned In Us

TikTok Ban Legislation Fast-Tracked by US Lawmakers

US House Votes to Limit TikTok's Options

App Removal from Phones Proves Challenging

WASHINGTON, April 18, 2024 - Legislation that could result in a nationwide ban on TikTok in the US unless it severs ties with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, is being expedited by lawmakers in the US House of Representatives.

The legislation sets a deadline for TikTok to comply and provides two options: find a buyer for the video-sharing app or face a ban from US app stores. The proposed deadline is longer than the six-month timeframe suggested in previous legislation.

The House passed the legislation on Wednesday, giving TikTok a significant ultimatum. While the law would prohibit TikTok from being accessible in US app stores, experts believe that removing the already-installed app from users' phones would be a more challenging undertaking.

The legislation is part of ongoing efforts by the US government to address concerns over TikTok's potential to facilitate foreign interference or data collection by the Chinese government. The app's close ties to ByteDance have raised national security concerns in the current geopolitical climate.
